While most of the media girls in her age bracket seem to be primarily concerned with increasing their Instagram and Twitter following or inspiring sensational media headlines, this A-Lister has devoted a significant amount of her time and energy to charitable causes.

Most celebrity causes in Kenya lack the structure or long-term commitment to make a lasting difference. But that’s not the case with Doreen, she has chosen her cause faithfully, having a close heart for the less privileged and her passion being children. She is involved with personal and community charities work.

She also hosted a current affair show dubbed TUJADILIANE that aired every week until November 1st. Photo/FILE

The former Ebru TV News presenter is an active member of an initiative in Kibera slums dubbed Young Single Mothers Empowerment Group (YSMEG) a platform that empowers young mothers through creating employment in Kibera slums.

Doreen has proven that she’s more than just a pretty face we’ve seen on TV. Her charity work goes beyond the occasional attendance at star studded galas and events. She’s a volunteer at the Kenya Girl Guide Association and the Nyumbani Children’s Home in Dagoretti Nairobi.

The media glitterati has committed to using her celebrity status to focus on the needs of the less privileged children in disenfranchised schools across Kenya. It is this passion for children that motivated her to starting a charity foundation dubbed DOREEN GATWIRI FOUNDATION that seeks to help enhancing education in underprivileged schools. The foundation is set to be launched soon.

With over 50,000 followers across her social media platforms in a span of less than 2yrs in the media industry, this body banger is using her position to influence those with the power to effect change, and to raise much need funds for the poor, the sick and the disenfranchised. Phtoto/FILE
